Online Giving Rises Fast During the Holiday Season

December 15, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Charities are taking advantage of the growth of online fund raising this holiday season, reports USA Today.

Donations made through the Internet site Network for Good increased 30 percent through November this year, compared with the same period last year. Network for Good channels donations to any charities in the United States.

The Salvation Army has found that its “red kettle” campaign is doing increasingly well online. Internet users can create their own red kettle online with a link to donate to the Salvation Army.

The charity has also set up a Web page on the social-network site MySpace.com for “Mr. Red Kettle,” hoping to appeal to a younger generation.

Other charities are also seeing online donations on the rise. Save the Children reports that online donations given as holiday gifts almost tripled this November compared with last year.
