The following organizations can offer help to nonprofit groups in creating or updating their

ethical guidelines:

The Association of Fundraising Professionals lists its sample code of ethics for fund raisers on its Web site.


The Association of Non-Profit Executives offers a sample code on its site.

The Colorado Association of Nonprofit Organizations includes its publication, “Conducting an Ethics Audit: A Checklist for Nonprofits” on its Web site.

The Council on Foundations includes a code for grant makers on its site.

Independent Sector provides a checklist for creating an ethics code on its site. The page also includes links to a compendium of ethics codes from nonprofit organizations.

The Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ Web site includes a link to the Maryland Standards for Excellence.


The National Council of Nonprofit Associations includes information about financial accountability and a sample code of ethics on its Web site.
