British and Pakistani investigators are looking into whether a Pakistani charity that is a front for an Islamic militant group may have funneled money raised from earthquake relief in Pakistan to the Britons suspected of attempting to blow up commercial airliners, reports The New York Times.
The charity, Jamaat ud Dawa, raised money in British Pakistani areas in Birmingham, London, and Manchester after the earthquake last October. Several of the 23 suspects in custody, meanwhile, traveled to Pakistan last year, ostensibly to help with earthquake relief.
On Wednesday, Pakistan officials detained the head of the charity, Hafiz Mohammed Saeed.
The charity has denied that it funneled money to the terrorism suspects, reports the Irish Examiner.
