Party Hosts Increasingly Seeking a Charity Gift

More and more people are throwing private parties for charities, where guests are expected to donate to the hosts’ pet causes, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Many large charities now encourage donors to throw such parties, where the guest writes a check for, say, $20, rather than bringing the traditional bottle of wine.
However, small charities that lack fund-raising networks may find the practice especially useful. The events are particularly popular among younger people and people weary of the black-tie circuit.
Yet the article warns that the requests for money must be made in good taste or guests may feel used. Make the purpose of the party clear upfront, it suggests, and do not be surprised if some guests resist anyway, especially those who have other favorite causes.
