Pastor, ACLU Sue Over Church Restrictions
April 20, 2006
A Baptist pastor has sued the city of East Point, Ga., saying the city’s zoning ordinances violate his religious freedom, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Lawyers with the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing Rev. Nathaniel Small, claim a prohibition on houses of worship occupying buildings that were not originally designed as churches violates the U.S. and Georgia constitutions.
A spokesperson for the city said it had just received word of the lawsuit and was evaluating its merits.
