America’s Promise-the Alliance for Youth (Alexandria, Va.): Announced the retirement of Peter A. Gallagher, president and chief executive officer, effective May 1. Gregg Petersmeyer, vice chair of the organization’s Board of Directors, has been appointed interim president.

America’s Second Harvest (Chicago): Appointed Ertharin Cousin, senior vice president of public affairs at Albertson’s (Boise, Idaho), to be chief operating officer and executive vice president.

American Humane (Englewood, Colo.): Appointed Marie Belew Wheatley, chief development officer at American Red Cross-Mile High Chapter (Denver), to be president and chief executive officer. She succeeds Tim O’Brien, who resigned in July 2003. American Humane provides programs that protect children and animals from abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles: Appointed Roger Dickson, chief operating officer, to be chapter executive officer.

Art-Reach (Philadelphia): Appointed Michael Norris, director of external relations at the Arden Theatre Company (Philadelphia), to be executive director.

Carnegie Hall (New York): Robert J. Harth, artistic and executive director, died of a heart attack on January 30. He was 47.

Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum (New York): Appointed Bruce Lineker, director of institutional development at the Solo-mon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), to be director of foundation and corporate relations.

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (Washington): Appointed Shane Salter, chief of staff for children, youth, families, and elders in the administration of Mayor Anthony Williams of Washington, to be executive director.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, N.Y.): Appointed Sarah Yancey Gaffin, vice president of development at WXXI Public Broadcasting (Rochester), to be senior major-gifts officer.

Youth Consultation Service Foundation (Newark, N.J.): Appointed Eillene Leistner, executive director, to be vice president. This organization provides behavioral-health services to children with special needs.
