ALS Association (Calabasas Hills, Calif.): Appointed Gary A. Leo, senior vice president for development at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles), to be president and chief executive officer. The association supports research and services related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Art Institute of Chicago: Appointed James Cuno, director of the Courtauld Institute of Art (London), to be director and president, effective in September. He will succeed James N. Wood, who is retiring after 24 years at the institute.

Asia Society (New York): Appointed Vishakha N. Desai, senior vice president and director of the museum and cultural programs, to be president. She will succeed Nicholas Platt, who is retiring this summer after serving as president for 12 years.

Case Western Reserve U. (Cleveland): Appointed Thomas J. Kolda, director of college advancement and university planned giving at the U. of Wisconsin at Whitewater, to be director of gift planning.

Charity Lobbying in the Public Interest (Washington): Appointed Elizabeth M. Baumgarten, program director and counsel, to be executive director, effective July 1. She will succeed Bob Smucker, founder of the organization, who is retiring.
