AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (Washington): Appointed Chris Collins, principal at Progressive Health Partners (Washington), to be executive director.

Arts & Education Council (St. Louis): Appointed James F. Weidman, director of development at the Saint Louis Art Museum, to be president.

Baylor Health Care System Foundation (Dallas): Announced the retirement of Charles M. Cooper, president, effective in October, after which he will serve as president emeritus.

CDC Foundation (Atlanta): Appointed Adelia P. Thompson, assistant vice president for development at Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Ga.), to be vice president for development.

Council on Foundations (Washington): Appointed Don Tharpe, executive director of the Association of School Business Officials International (Reston, Va.), to be executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Easter Seals (Chicago): Appointed Shirley Sexton, director of nonprofit services in the Falls Church, Va., office of Commerce One (Pleasanton, Calif.), to be director of Internet marketing.

GuideStar (Williamsburg, Va.): Appointed Robert G. Ottenhoff, a consultant based in McLean, Va., and former executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Public Broadcasting Service (Alexandria, Va.), to be president. He succeeds Buzz Schmidt, the group’s founder, who will now serve as chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of Directors.

Humane Society of Indianapolis: Announced the resignation of Marsha Spring, president, after 13 years in the position.

Independent Sector (Washington): John W. Gardner, co-founder and chairman emeritus, died February 16 at age 89. Mr. Gardner was also a former president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, founding chairman of Common Cause (Washington), and U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in the Johnson administration.

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra: Appointed Robert R. Swaney, director of development at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, to be director of major and planned gifts.

Lincoln U. (Pa.): Appointed Michael C. Taylor, director of admissions at Saint Paul’s College (Lawrenceville, Va.), to be director of alumni relations, and Sandra D. Yates, former development officer at Swarthmore College (Pa.), to be director of development and major gifts.

National Association of Service and Conservation Corps (Washington): Announced the resignation of Kathleen Selz, president. Harry Bruell, vice president for field services, and Andrew Moore, vice president for government relations and public affairs, will assume her duties until a successor is named.
