Pfizer Promises $40 Million for Covid-19 Relief Efforts (Grants Roundup)

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Pfizer Foundation

$40 million in medical supplies and cash grants to help combat the global health effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The pharmaceutical company has already given $1 million in total to Direct Relief, Project HOPE, and International Medical Corps for frontline medical supplies.

Kimberly-Clark Foundation

$5 million to Unicef and the International Federation of Red Cross for global coronavirus-relief efforts. The company has given $2.5 million to Unicef, and another $2.5 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the American Red Cross.

Horizon Foundation

$4.8 million to the University of Oklahoma to establish a new center for Native American research and teaching.

Borealis Philanthropy

$2.3 million to 16 news organizations that serve communities of color in the United States through its Racial Equity in Journalism Fund.

Walmart Foundation

$1.4 million over two years to Fair Trade USA to develop data-driven tools for farmers and farmworkers.

Legacy in Action

$1.1 million to Mercy Support Services to buy five acres of land and develop the property into a community of 67 housing units for people in need.

Goizueta Foundation

$1 million to the Greater Atlanta Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund, a joint project of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and United Way of Greater Atlanta.

New Grant Opportunities

The AARP Foundation is accepting proposals for grants that will support projects to advance economic opportunity among low-income older adults. There are two programs: one for direct-service projects and one for education, outreach, or field-building. Grants are worth up to $150,000 per year, over up to three years. Applications are due April 22.

Lyda Hill Philanthropies is soliciting nominations from nonprofit groups in Texas for the Lone Star Prize. One $10 million grant will be awarded to improve the lives of Texans, both during the coronavirus crisis and to find long-term solutions for critical challenges. The competition is managed by Lever for Change, an affiliate of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Applications are due July 22.
