Phil Collins’ Collection to Be Foundation of Alamo Museum

British rock star Phil Collins has donated one of the world’s leading collections of Alamo artifacts to the Texas historic site, which is building a $100-million center to house the more than 200 vintage weapons and other items, Reuters writes. The singer and drummer, who scored a series of hits in the 1980s with the band Genesis and as a solo artist, turned over the bulk of his collection to state officials Tuesday in San Antonio.

The new museum will be named for Mr. Collins, who said he became fascinated with the Alamo as a boy growing up in London, watching a TV series about Davy Crockett. “When I got older and became successful, I decided to spend my money on original items from the Alamo rather than on Ferraris,” he said Tuesday. Mr. Collins told The New York Times earlier this year that he had spent “seven figures” in compiling his collection.
