Connecticut charities received slightly less than a third of the money raised for them by telemarketing companies last year, according to a new report released by the state’s Attorney General.
In response to telephone solicitations, Connecticut residents gave more than $9.5-million last year to benefit 101 different non-profit groups, including charitable, civic, police, and firefighter organizations. Of those proceeds, telemarketers gave just over $3-million to the charities.
The Connecticut report was based on results of telemarketing campaigns reported by telemarketers.
Under state law, telemarketing companies that operate in Connecticut must file forms that detail expenses and revenue for each telemarketing campaign they conduct for a charity.
