PITTSBURGH CHARITIES

January 6, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Nonprofit organizations in Pittsburgh donated $4.56-million this week to aid their financially beleaguered city, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The Pittsburgh Public Service Foundation, which hopes to raise $13.2-million from local charities over three years, has released a list of contributors that included schools, hospitals, and arts institutions. The city’s bad financial condition forced it to form the foundation to seek money from private sources, the newspaper said. Among the organizations that have not contributed, however, were several high-profile foundations like the McCune, Richard King Mellon, and Sarah Scaife, as well as local chapters of the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, the newspaper said.
