Ruth Arnao, aide to Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent J. Fumo and executive director of Citizens Alliance for Better Neighborhoods, a Philadelphia nonprofit group, has resigned from her leadership of the charity as it undergoes federal scrutiny for possible political entanglement, the Associated Press reports.
The organization, run by Mr. Fumo’s aides, received millions of dollars in donations from groups that lobby the Pennsylvania legislature. Prosecutors are trying to determine if Mr. Fumo misused his position to extort funds for the charity, or if he misused the charity to further his political interests. Neither Ms. Arnao nor Mr. Fumo commented in the article.
