POLITICIANS’ CHARITY

The Pennsylvania state government continued its financial support of a charity controlled by two lawmakers, despite concerns raised about an audit of the organization, reports the Associated Press. A state government official told the Beaver Initiative for Growth—which was founded by Rep. Michael Veon and Sen. Gerald LaValle, both of Beaver County—in a letter last year that the group could not receive more money until it filed a revised audit of a state grant. The next day, the state provided $1-million and then offered subsequent support. Cindy Vannoy, the charity’s finance director, said she was unaware of the problem until last week and that the group will provide a revised audit.
