Postal Stamp Honors Foundation Donors
July 30, 1998
The U.S. Postal Service this month issued a first-class stamp honoring Lila and DeWitt Wallace, founders of Reader’s Digest, for their work as philanthropists.
“The Wallaces’ legacy of kindness and generous contributions to the arts make them without question two of our nation’s foremost philanthropists,” the Postal Service said in a statement.
The 32-cent stamp is based on a pencil-sketch portrait of the couple.
During their lifetimes, the Wallaces established a network of philanthropies that today consists of the DeWitt and Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Funds, in New York, and seven supporting organizations.
