Organizing for Action, the nonprofit “social-welfare” group formed last January to promote President Obama’s second-term agenda, raised more than $26-million in its first year of operation, The Washington Post reports.
According to a voluntary financial disclosure the group released Friday, Organizing for Action received mostly small donations from some 421,000 contributors. The organization scaled back an initial first-year target of $50-million after deciding to eschew corporate donations amid criticism from government watchdog groups.
Formed out of Mr. Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign operation, Organizing for Action has endeavored to rally support for White House efforts on gun control and immigration reform and encouraged people to enroll in health plans under the Affordable Care Act.
