Public broadcaster KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif., is acquiring a Santa Barbara-based classical music station, expanding its reach in communities north of Los Angeles, writes the Los Angeles Times.
The $1-million acquisition of KDB from the Santa Barbara Foundation enables KCRW to broadcast at a stronger signal to Santa Barbara-area listeners. KCRW airs national programs such as “All Things Considered” and “This American Life” and produces the popular indie music show “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” Los Angeles classical station KUSC will combine with KDB to continue broadcasting classical works.
KCRW is in the midst of a $20-million drive to finance a new three-story headquarters building at Santa Monica College. Its new Santa Barbara outlet will broadcast from the Antioch University campus.
