Qatar Gives $60-Million in Katrina Aid

The nation of Qatar plans to announce the recipients of about $60-million in grants to help survivors of Hurricane Katrina, reports The New York Times. Charities slated to receive donations include Xavier University of Louisiana, Tulane University, Children’s Hospital New Orleans, Habitat for Humanity, Louisiana State University, and the March of Dimes.
Saudi Arabia gave more than $100-million following the hurricanes, and the United Arab Emirates pledged $100-million. All told, more than 50 countries donated money, expertise, or noncash items, according to the article.
