Questions Surround Efficacy of Sterling Foundation’s Work

May 5, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was recently banned from the professional basketball league because of his racially charged comments, has appeared in ad campaigns touting promises to give $10-million or more from his foundation to a variety of charitable projects. But actual donations from the Donald T. Sterling Charitable Foundation are much less than what the ads suggest, raising questions about the foundation’s efforts, reports the Los Angeles Times.

For example, a promised Malibu, Calif., summer camp for underprivileged children, originally advertised to open this year, has yet to get off the ground. Malibu city officials say that the foundation has not filed paperwork for the camp, and the foundation’s manager said he had no information about the project.

The Times cites tax records as showing the foundation disbursed about $1.4-million from its start in 2009 through the end of 2012.
