Recruiting Leaders for Community Development

August 23, 2001 | Read Time: 1 minute

An Overview of Community Development Leadership Training Programs and Lessons Learned From Selected Colleges and Universities examines three training issues for professionals working in community development: recruiting additional college and graduate students into the field; providing continuing education to people already working in the profession; and developing the leadership skills of community-development practitioners to better communicate the goals of the profession. The report looks at selected community-development programs at universities and institutions with continuing-education or special certificate programs. It seeks to provide an overview of the key challenges that arise when starting, structuring, and maintaining community-development programs. The report, prepared by the Roper Group for Seedco, a nonprofit group that deals with community- and economic-development issues, may interest foundations, charities, and scholars working on this issue.
