Red Cross, Humane Society Under Scrutiny
March 26, 2006
The Lousisiana attorney general is investigating the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of the United States amid complaints that they misused money intended for people and animals harmed by Hurricane Katrina, The Washington Post reports.
The attorney general, Charles C. Foti, might also examine other charities, the newspaper said.
Officials of the Humane Society said nothing had been done wrong and Red Cross leaders said they had taken action against three volunteers who were accused of using donations inappropriately.
