May 15, 2003 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Self-Help Group Sourcebook: Your Guide to Community and Online Support Groups, Seventh Edition, edited by Barbara J. White and Edward J. Madara, offers advice on finding and beginning self-help groups. Ms. White and Mr. Madara, program director and coordinator, respectively, of the American Self-Help Group Clearinghouse, a project of Saint Clare’s Health Services, in Denville, N.J., have compiled contact information for, and brief descriptions of, more than 1,000 self-help organizations, primarily in the United States. The editors also detail how to form a group, and give tips on holding and publicizing meetings and attracting volunteers. The organizations listed in the book are also in a searchable database on the clearinghouse’s Web site.
