GuideStar is developing a new online service designed to make it easier for government regulators to check on the financial performance of nonprofit groups.
The new section of GuideStar’s Web Site, to be called gov@GuideStar, will allow subscribers to search for information contained in particular sections of an organization’s federal tax return, including whether a charity has had financial dealings with its officers and directors.
Subscribers also will be able to look at financial indicators, such as what percentage of income a charity spends on fund raising. In addition, government officials will be able to quickly analyze how an organization’s executive compensation compares with the pay at other groups.
The new service, which is available to anyone, will cost government users $3,000 annually, while other subscribers will be charged $3,500.
GuideStar plans to open its new service in early July.
