Bishop T.D. Jakes and the Rev. William H. Gray III, co-chairs of the Interfaith Advisory Committee, which was established to help guide the grants of the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, abruptly resigned recently, saying the fund’s directors were undermining their decisions, reports The Washington Post.
The committee was set up to help churches affected by Katrina by distributing $20-million raised by the former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
Directors of the Katrina Fund did not respond to questions about the religious leaders’ accusations.
“We appreciate the leadership that these individuals gave to this effort,” Alexis M. Herman, former labor secretary during the Clinton administration and now co-chair of the Katrina Fund, said in a statement.
