Retail chains like Target and Wal-Mart are a growing source of smaller donations for local charities, reports The Washington Post. Local store managers have a big say in how the money is donated, and charities can often apply for a grant simply by returning a form to the store. Nonprofit groups aren’t the only beneficiaries, however. The chain stores’ philanthropy helps to build customer loyalty, says the newspaper.
