The Rockefeller Foundation, in New York, announced today the creation of a $200,000 award to support scholars, nonprofit leaders, and other individuals who have made significant contributions to urban design in New York City, reports The New York Sun.
The new award, named after Jane Jacobs, the author of a seminal book on urban thinking, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, will be given to two people each year.
In its announcement, the foundation said the winner will be chosen by a 12-person jury, which includes architecture critics, arts leaders, and philanthropist David Rockefeller.
The new project is part of the foundation’s effort to revamp its grant making. Read The Chronicle article about changes at Rockefeller.
