The Legion of Christ, a Roman Catholic order founded in 1941 that operates primarily in Mexico and other Latin American countries, spends about $50-million a year on its charitable efforts, which include operating schools for poor children, reports The Wall Street Journal. While the organization has been able to raise money from well-heeled Mexicans and other wealthy people, it also has been criticized for reinforcing the class divides that have long plagued the region.
