Sanford Health Commits $30-Million for New Ghana Clinics

Nonprofit medical network Sanford Health announced plans this week to spend $30-million to build hundreds of clinics in Ghana over the next six years, exponentially boosting its presence in the West African nation, report the Sioux Falls, S.D., Argus Leader and the Daily Globe of southwestern Minnesota.

The Sioux Falls-based health system has opened five clinics in Ghana since 2012 and broke ground Wednesday on a sixth. The group’s agreement with the country’s Health Ministry envisions 300 facilities spread across Ghana and linked as a tele-health network to extend modern care to poorly served rural communities. Global clinic expansion is one of five priorities in which the organization is investing banker and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford’s 2007 gift of $400-million.
