Al Warrington IV, a University of Florida business alumnus who founded the precursor to sanitation giant Waste Management, has made a $75-million gift to his alma mater, The Miami Herald writes.
The contribution—which he made as a challenge to other alumni to give another $75-million—pushes Mr. Warrington’s total giving to the university to $100-million. A 1958 graduate and a founding member of the university’s board of trustees, Mr. Warrington has launched several companies, including Sanfill, an environmental firm that later became Waste Management.
The university plans to plow the gift and hoped-for matching donations into the business school’s endowment for professors. The school has already been named for Mr. Warrington in recognition of his previous donations.
