Save the Children Reviews Ebola Procedures After Nurse Is Infected

Save the Children is examining safety protocols at an Ebola treatment center it operates in Sierra Leone to determine how a Scottish nurse contracted the virus, Bloomberg reports. Pauline Cafferkey, who spent three weeks last month treating patients at the clinic, is in stable condition at an isolation unit in a London hospital, to which she was transferred after returning from Africa on December 28 and testing positive for Ebola.

London-based Save the Children opened the clinic in Kerry Town in November as part of the British government’s commitment to supply and support anti-Ebola efforts in Sierra Leone, a former British colony. The charity is investigating how staffers at the center put on and remove protecting gear and their contact with people outside the facility. A Cuban doctor who was also infected at the Kerry Town clinic recovered followed treatment in Geneva.
