S.C. College’s Foundation Agrees to Finance President Search

Winthrop University’s nonprofit fundraising arm will cover costs of about $140,000 for the institution’s second search in two years for a new president, The State of Columbia, S.C., writes. The Rock Hill, S.C., college’s board hired a search firm Wednesday after leaders of the Winthrop Foundation signed off on trustees’ request last month that it fund the process.

The foundation, which solicits donations for scholarships and other campus needs, said the search funds will come from savings resulting from its not paying a presidential salary supplement since Jamie Comstock Williamson was fired as the university’s leader earlier this year. The nonprofit had been paying about half of Ms. Williamson’s salary of nearly $300,000.
