The Securities and Exchange Commission, the federal agency that monitors corporate transactions, is now studying the feasibility, costs, and benefits of two bills introduced by Rep. Paul Gillmor, a Republican from Ohio.
One measure, H.R. 944, would require companies to disclose their major donations to shareholders. A companion bill, H.R. 945, would give shareholders a major say in deciding which charities receive corporate contributions.
Information about the review by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and copies of Mr. Gillmor’s bills, may be found on the commission’s World-Wide Web site at: http://www.sec.gov/rules/othern/chgive.htm
Questions about the commission’s review may be directed to the agency by calling (202) 942-2900 or sending an electronic-mail message to askcf@sec.gov.
