Name of fund: Liberty Disaster Relief Fund

Where the money is going:
$72.4-million for immediate disaster relief, including food and counseling for victims and their families, as well as for rescue and recovery workers. $47.9-million to cover the immediate cash needs of families that lost at least one wage earner in the attacks. $14.7-million to provide information about terrorism to the public. $12-million to generate an adequate blood reserve for times of crisis, for the U.S. military as well as civilians in this country. $5.8-million for telecommunications, database management, fuel for emergency vehicles, and other overhead expenses incurred as part of responding to a disaster. $600,000 to help the families of people from outside the United States who died in the attacks. $400,000 to provide support for military families that are involved in the war on terrorism.

To provide general relief related to the attack on the World Trade Center (Aid for Terrorist Attack Victims). AmeriCares officials say money from the victims’ fund has been distributed, but that they can’t yet provide a tally.

Some money has been distributed to help people who do not have medical insurance pay for the treatment of respiratory illnesses resulting from the attacks. Money has also been used to support Operation Return Home, a program to inform residents about proper cleanup of dust and debris from their homes and businesses, and to distribute air purifiers and vacuums to buildings affected by the disaster.
AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

To assist farmers who sustained losses after the attacks on the World Trade Center that were not covered by insurance. Distributions will also be made to help farmers who lost revenue at other markets in Manhattan that were closed following the attacks.

If resources permit, the families of the other people who were injured or killed on September 11 may also be included as beneficiaries.
