RELIEF CHARITIES

The Liberty Disaster Relief Fund has distributed $167.8-million for immediate disaster relief for victims and their families; $268.4-million for immediate relief for people who were displaced from their homes or jobs or were otherwise economically harmed by the attacks, as well as for rescue and recovery workers; $93.9-million to cover the immediate cash needs of families that lost at least one wage earner in the attacks; and $22.5-million toward direct support costs.

To provide general relief related to the attack on the World Trade Center (Aid for Terrorist Attack Victims). The Heroes’ Fund has distributed about $4.5-million to support immediate family members of the New York firefighters, police officers, emergency-medical workers, and employees of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who died in the attacks.

The American Families Assistance Fund is providing training for trauma counselors, grants for widows and orphans of firefighters and police officers who were killed as a result of the attacks, and assistance to people who lost family members in the events of September 11 or became unemployed.

CITIZENS’ SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OF AMERICA AND LUMINA FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION

The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund helps pay for the postsecondary education of the children and spouses of those killed or severely injured in the September 11 attacks.
FEDERAL EMPLOYEE EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE FUND

The FEEA World Trade Center/Pentagon Fund raised money to help the families of federal employees killed in the September 11 attacks pay for travel and hotels to attend memorial and burial services and finance rent, loan repayments, and college tuition. Also used money to pay rent, utility, and other bills of postal employees who were unable to work as a result of the anthrax scare.
JEWISH FEDERATION OF GREATER WASHINGTON

The Victims Relief Fund raised money to support organizations in New York and Washington that are working directly with victims of the attacks and their families.
KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

The 911 Victims Children’s Fund is covering short-term expenses such as day care and groceries, as well as long-term expenses such as college tuition. The Windows of Hope Relief Fund received $30,000 to assist the famlies of the 72 employees of the World Trade Center Club and Windows on the World restaurant, located at the top of the World Trade Center, who died in the attacks. The fund also gave $90,000
to send children who were affected by the attacks to a camp in upstate New York.
LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

The September 11 Disaster Relief Fund spent $80,000
to purchase nine temporary shelters that gave workers a place to warm up and rest. $20,000 was spent on supplies for relief workers in New York, and $10,000 for workers in Washington. The fund also spent $30,000
on a camp program for the children of victims, and $20,000 to help pay rent for a warehouse to store and sort supplies for the recovery effort. The remainder will support the efforts of Lions Clubs in New York, Washington, and other affected cities to assist the victims and their families, as well as relief workers, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
NEW YORK COMMUNITY TRUST AND UNITED WAY OF NEW YORK CITY

The September 11th Fund has distributed $45-million in cash assistance to victims and families; $13.5-million to help organizations provide other services to victims and families, such as grief counseling and job retraining; $2.3-million for services to affected community organizations; $11.4-million in loans to affected community organizations; and $2.2-million cash reimbursement to organizations that were involved in rescue and recovery efforts.

The Rotary Fund for Victims of the September 11th Tragedy provides cash awards and college scholarships for the families of the victims and emergency personnel who died in the attacks or were adversely affected by the events of September 11.

AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK

The 9-11 Respiratory Assistance Fund has distributed $30,000 to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York City, to help people who do not have medical insurance pay for the treatment of respiratory illnesses resulting from the attacks. $17,000 has been used to support Operation Return Home, a program to inform residents about proper cleanup of dust and debris from their homes and businesses, and to distribute air purifiers and vacuums to buildings affected by the disaster. $15,000 has enabled an environmental-health consultant to assist the American Lung Association of New York.
AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

The ASPCA Disaster Relief Fund provides rescue assistance, medical treatment, and new or temporary homes for pets whose owners were hurt or killed as a result of the September 11 attacks.
FARMERS’ MARKET FEDERATION OF NEW YORK

The Fund for World Trade Center Greenmarket Farmers assists farmers who sustained losses after the attacks on the World Trade Center that were not covered by insurance. Distributions will also be made to help farmers who lost revenue at other markets in Manhattan that were closed following the attacks.

The New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund provides financial assistance, such as mortgage payments, and transportation aid to families of firefighters who died in the World Trade Center rescue efforts. More than $300,000 was distributed to each of the 347 families.

The NIAF Twin Towers Relief Fund pays for the educational needs of the children of firefighters, rescue workers, and medical personnel who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The Twin Towers Fund has distributed $49.7-million to families of members of the New York City Fire Department and its Emergency Medical Services Command, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and other government offices who were injured or killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center. If resources permit, the families of other people who were injured or killed on September 11 may also be included as beneficiaries.

The Heroes Fund seeks to help meet the financial, physical, and psychological needs of police personnel and their families, as well as the emergency needs of the New York City Police Department.
