PURPOSE:
The Liberty Disaster Relief Fund distributed $182-million to provide immediate relief for victims and their families; $276-million to help people who were displaced from their homes or jobs or were otherwise economically harmed by the attacks, as well as to help rescue and recovery workers; and $95-million to cover the immediate cash needs of families that lost at least one wage earner in the attacks. In addition, $133-million has been pledged for the September 11 Recovery Program, which will pay for long-term mental-healh treatment of families directly affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks. The fund continues to accept contributions.

FEDERAL EMPLOYEE EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE FUND

PURPOSE:
The FEEA World Trade Center/Pentagon Fund paid travel expenses for families of federal employees killed in the September 11 attacks to attend memorial and burial services and to help them meet their rent obligations, make loan repayments, and pay college tuition. The fund helped pay rent, utility, and other bills of postal employees who were unable to work as a result of the anthrax attacks. The fund continues to accept contributions.

PURPOSE:
The Victims Relief Fund distributed money to organizations in New York and Washington that are working directly with victims of the attacks and their families. The remaining money will be used to provide for long-term needs, such as mental-health services.

PURPOSE:
The 911 Victims Children’s Fund is covering short-term expenses such as day care and groceries, as well as long-term expenses such as college tuition. The Windows of Hope Relief Fund received $30,000 to assist the famlies of the 72 employees of the World Trade Center Club and Windows on the World restaurant, located at the top of the World Trade Center, who died in the attacks. The fund also provided $90,000 to send children who were affected by the attacks to a camp in upstate New York. The fund continues to accept contributions.
LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

PURPOSE:
The September 11 Disaster Relief Fund spent $167,000 on camp programs for the children of victims, and $80,000 to purchase nine temporary shelters that gave workers a place to rest. It also provided short-term financial assistance for victims, paying for supplies for relief workers in New York and Washington, and to assist with rent for a warehouse to store and sort supplies for the recovery effort. The remainder will support the efforts of Lions Clubs in New York, Washington, and other affected cities to assist the victims and their families, as well as relief workers, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. The fund continues to accept contributions.

The Tides 9/11 Fund has awarded grants of up to $20,000 each to 55 nonprofit groups to provide immediate assistance to working poor people who were affected by the attacks, to promote tolerance, civil liberties, and human rights, and to provide alternative media voices to effectively frame the complex political, social, and economic history of the crisis. The fund has also pledged $18,315 to two organizations that it would not identify.

PURPOSE:
The 9-11 Respiratory Assistance Fund has distributed $30,000 to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York City, to help people who do not have medical insurance to pay for the treatment of respiratory illnesses resulting from the attacks; $17,000 has been used to support Operation Return Home, a program to inform residents about proper cleanup of dust and debris from their homes and businesses, and to distribute air purifiers and vacuum cleaners to buildings affected by the disaster. Another $15,000 has enabled an environmental-health consultant to assist the American Lung Association of New York. The remaining money will go to support educational and research projects related to September 11.
AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

The remaining money is pledged to endow the Pet Assisted Therapy Program, which trains dogs for therapeutic uses in health-care facilities.

The Fund for World Trade Center Greenmarket Farmers has distributed money to farmers who sustained losses after the attacks on the World Trade Center that were not covered by insurance. In addition, the fund distributed $15-million in direct aid to the families of victims of the World Trade Center collapse, the Pentagon attack, as well as those whose relatives were on the four planes that were used in the attacks.
