San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee plans to offer to sell or lease a prime seawall lot close to the Bay Bridge to George Lucas as a site for the “Star Wars” creator’s proposed museum of Hollywood memorabilia and populist art, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune report.
Chicago has also been courting the billionaire movie mogul, recently offering a $1 lease on a 17-acre lot now used for parking for Soldier Field that is close to the city’s Museum Campus and offers views of the skyline and Lake Michigan.
Mr. Lucas has said he will put up $700-million of his own money to construct the museum. He initially sought a choice spot in San Francisco’s Presidio, but the board that manages the federal park opted earlier this year to put off any redevelopment of the site. A Bay Area native, Mr. Lucas now splits his time between California and Chicago, the hometown of his wife, investment executive Mellody Hobson.
