Sheldon Adelson Pledges $25-Million to Israeli University

June 25, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is donating $25-million to Israel’s Ariel University to support an ambitious expansion of health education and medical services at the West Bank institution, Haaretz writes.

The gift is the first from the American billionaire, a leading donor to Israeli causes, to specifically target an institution in the West Bank, and Mr. Adelson said it is aimed at strengthening Jewish settlement in the territory.

“The many attacks on settlement in Judea and Samaria are connected to the long struggle against the State of Israel since its founding, and even before that,” he said in a statement issued by the school. “The donation to Ariel University is about building a Zionist wall in place of the crack.”

The contribution to Ariel’s School of Health Sciences will fund a development program that includes construction of a regional medical center serving the Jewish and Palestinian population and new courses in occupational therapy, pharmaceutical chemistry, and emergency medicine.
