Silicon Valley Companies Give Tech Devices and Training to the Poor
April 15, 2015
Some Silicon Valley tech companies are providing smartphones and other resources to homeless and low-income people as a way to fight inequality, The New York Times reports.
While many Bay Area tech companies have focused their philanthropy outside the U.S., a handful of new local efforts include Google’s partnership with Community Technology Alliance to identify recipients of free phones, the $3-million computer lab that Twitter is building for low-income people across from its office, and social media-tutoring that other companies are providing for low-income people.
