Skies Not So Friendly for Orchestras

In the wake of the terrorist plot foiled in Britain last week, stringent new regulations at airports have made travel for orchestras more difficult than ever, reports The New York Times.
Many orchestras have canceled overseas tours or sought alternative transportation arrangements now that carry-on restrictions make it impossible to take some instruments aboard passenger aircraft. While chartering planes may be a possibility, few groups say they can afford to do so.
Because of the travel restrictions, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, in New York, has just canceled a tour of Britain that had been in the works for two years.
