Smithsonian Inspector General Resigns
June 7, 2006
The Smithsonian Institution’s inspector general, Debra S. Ritt, resigned last week, saying she is concerned that decreasing resources for her office has hampered its ability to oversee the Washington cultural organization, reports The Washington Post. Ms. Ritt’s departure comes as the institution is facing a number of inquiries, including an audit of executive compensation.
Also, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History received a $1.1-million gift from the foundation of Tiffany & Company, reports the newspaper. The donation will be used to establish a fund to purchase rare gemstones.
