FC Scholar is a CD-ROM available from the Foundation Center that provides a data base of 3,200 grant makers that offer educational support for individuals through scholarships, loans, fellowships, research grants, and awards. The program offers nine search categories: by grant-maker name, geographic focus, name of educational institution, state, type of support, company, city, field of interest, and text. Users with access to the Internet can connect to the World-Wide Web sites of roughly 100 grant makers and can send e-mail messages to the Foundation Center if technical support is needed. GrantScape Version 2.0 is a program that is installed on a computer’s hard drive to enable users to call up profiles of 15,000 private, community, and corporate foundations, as well as corporate-giving programs. Each profile outlines contact information, application information and guidelines, types of grants awarded, giving priorities, financial information (such as foundation assets and number of grants made annually), restrictions, and a list of recent grants. Each entry contains the month and year of its last update.
