Spared for Another Year, Sweet Briar’s Next Challenge Is Fundraising

After Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring announced a settlement that would allow Sweet Briar College to remain open at least another year, advocates face another challenge: raising $12 million for the college’s operating budget for the next academic year, writes The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Saving Sweet Briar, the noprofit that has been fighting to keep the liberal-arts college open, already has pledges of $21 million, most of it promised on condition that a deal is reached to keep the institution open. But only 5 percent has been collected.
So pro bono fundrasing consultants and 150 volunteers are turning their focus on urging donors to follow through on their commitments.
