Stanford U. Announces Record Campaign

Stanford University has officially kicked off a $4.3-billion fund-raising campaign, which, if successful, would be the largest in higher-education history, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education.
The campaign will last five years, although Stanford has been “quietly” raising funds since 2004. It has already secured pledges of $2.2-billion toward its goal. The university plans to spend the donations on “multidisciplinary efforts,” education training, research, and facilities. Stanford’s overall goal is $300-million more than a similar drive announced last month by Columbia University.
The University of California at Los Angeles previously held the record for largest capital campaign, raising just over $3-billion in a 10-year period that ended in 2000.
