May 25, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

John Arrillaga, a Santa Clara, Calif., real-estate developer, has donated $100-million to Stanford University, which he attended decades ago on a basketball scholarship, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education and the San Jose Mercury News, in California.

Mr. Arrillaga has given other multimillion-dollar donations to the university, including donations to the athletics department, the Hillel House for Jewish students, and the campus’s equestrian facilities.

A spokesman for the university told the newspaper that officials are still figuring out how to divvy up the gift. The article did not contain comment from Mr. Arrillaga, who is worth about $1-billion, according to Forbes.
