Howard Schultz, chief executive officer of Starbucks, told CBS News Wednesday that he will donate $30-million to efforts to help troops returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In an interview with CBS’ Scott Pelley, Mr. Schultz said the gift will go in part toward funding “significant research” into treating brain trauma and post-traumatic stress, which he said affects up to 40 percent of the 2 million Americans who served in the long-running wars.

Another priority will be “a comprehensive mechanism for job training” for returning troops, Mr. Schultz said. In addition to the donation, he said Starbucks will hire 10,000 veterans or their spouses over the next five years.
