Starlight Children’s Foundation Names Chief Executive; Other Personnel News From the Nonprofit World

Academy for Educational Development (Washington): Announced the retirement of Stephen F. Moseley, president and chief executive officer, effective January 15.

American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (New York): Announced the death of Martin Kraar, executive vice president, on November 1. He was 69.

Barton G. Kids Hear Now Foundation (Miami): Appointed Connie Kazanjian, vice president of development at the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, to be executive director.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (Philadelphia): Appointed John Avondolio, group vice president of client engagement at Razorfish, in Philadelphia, to be vice president of marketing and communications.

Center for Public Integrity (Washington): Appointed John Solomon, chief digital officer and former executive editor of The Washington Times, to be executive editor.


Cornell U. (Ithaca, N.Y.): Appointed Michael Abbott, chief executive officer and head of the investment committee at Robeco-Sage (New York), to be chief investment officer.

Ducks Unlimited (Memphis): Appointed Philip Milburn, director of marketing and corporate relations, to be national director of development.

Girl Scouts of the USA (New York): Appointed Timothy Higdon, deputy executive director for external affairs at Amnesty International USA (New York), to be chief of external affairs.

Heifer International (Little Rock, Ark.): Appointed Pierre U. Ferrari, president of the Hot Fudge Social Venture Fund (Atlanta), to be chief executive officer. He succeeds Jo Luck, who plans to retire.

KickStart International (San Francisco): Appointed Anu Gupta, head of her own fund-raising consulting firm in Belmar, N.J., to be chief development and external-relations officer, based in New York. KickStart International develops and produces devices that poor people in Africa can use to build successful small businesses.


Legacy Health (Portland, Ore.): Appointed J. Michael Schultz, development manager for its six foundations, to be executive director of the Meridian Park Medical Foundation, Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation, and the Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation.

Mercy Foundation (Rancho Cordova, Calif.): Appointed Linda B. Cutler, vice president of corporate responsibility at GenCorp (Rancho Cordova, Calif.), to be president and chief executive officer.

MIND Research Institute (Santa Ana, Calif.): Appointed Glenn Maddalon, executive director of the Community Hospital of Long Beach Foundation (Calif.), to be vice president for development of this organization, which works to improve math education.

MorseLife (West Palm Beach, Fla.): Appointed Hong S. Chae, senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Judson Services (Cleveland), to be chief financial officer of this health-care organization, which serves older adults.

National Academy Foundation (New York): Appointed Margaret Sullivan, vice president for external affairs and development at Purchase College, State U. of New York, to be vice president for institutional advancement for this network of career-themed academies for needy high-school students.


National Christian Foundation (Alpharetta, Ga.): Appointed Bill Williams, chief executive officer of Generous Giving (Chattanooga, Tenn.), to be chief executive officer, a newly created role.

National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (Washington): Appointed Nathan R. Monell, chief executive officer of Foster Care Alumni of America (Alexandria, Va.), to be executive director.

New York Botanical Garden: Announced the retirement of Karl Lauby, vice president for communications.

New York City Ballet: Appointed Farang Azari, senior director of financial planning and analysis at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York), to be senior director of finance and administration and chief financial officer.

Nonprofit Enterprise at Work (Ann Arbor, Mich.): Appointed Michael R. Tyson, founder of Residential Detroit, to be president and chief executive officer.


Parents as Teachers (St. Louis): Announced the resignation of Susan Stepleton, president and chief executive officer, effective in June. She will join the faculty in the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington U. in St. Louis.

Providence Speech and Hearing Center (Orange, Calif.): Appointed Jeanne S. Flint, chief executive officer and executive director of Women Helping Women (Costa Mesa, Calif.), to be chief development officer.

Public Allies (Milwaukee): Appointed Enrique Ball, director of development at Pro Mujer International (New York), to be vice president of development and marketing. This organization works to develop young people become nonprofit leaders.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: Appointed Robert W. Lasher, director of development at the San Francisco Symphony, to be deputy director of external relations, overseeing the museum’s development department and its marketing and communications department, a newly created position.

Seattle Symphony Orchestra: Appointed Simon Woods, chief executive of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Glasgow), to be executive director.


Senior Citizens Services of North Texas (Wichita Falls): Announced the retirement of Betty R. Brown, executive director, effective in the spring.

Starlight Children’s Foundation (Los Angeles): Appointed Jacqueline Ibrahim, senior vice president at Neuberger Berman (New York), to be chief executive officer.

Trine U. (Angola, Ind.): Appointed Kent D. Stucky, vice president for university development at Loyola U. Chicago, to be vice president for alumni and development.

U. of Connecticut Foundation (Storrs): Appointed Kevin Edwards, associate vice president for treasury services, to be vice president for finance and chief investment officer and Frank Gifford, senior director of development for the university’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, to be vice president for development.

U. of Vermont (Burlington): Appointed O. Richard Bundy III, vice president for development at the Iowa State U. Foundation (Ames), to be vice president for development and alumni relations.


United Way of New York City: Appointed Kevin M. Taylor, managing director for development at the Robin Hood Foundation (New York), to be senior vice president for institutional advancement.

Voices for Children Foundation (Miami): Appointed Richard (Jeff) Greene, business-development executive at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, to be chief development officer.

YWCA Central Carolinas (Charlotte, N.C.): Appointed Ashley Sherry, a senior account executive at Luquire George Andrews (Charlotte), to be director of marketing.

Lumina Foundation for Education (Indianapolis): Appointed Sheri H. Ranis, former senior program officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Seattle), to be program director.

Rhode Island Foundation (Providence): Appointed Gail A. Ginnetty, director of private banking at Citizens Financial Group (Providence), and Pamela Tesler Howitt, a donor-services officer, both to be senior development officers.

Stupski Foundation (San Francisco): Appointed Susan J. Colby, founding partner of the Bridgespan Group’s San Francisco office, to be chief executive officer.
