Starr Foundation Awards Rockefeller U. $50 Million (Grants Roundup)

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Starr Foundation
$50 million to Rockefeller University to establish the Maurice R. and Corinne P. Greenberg Center for the Study of Inflammation, Microbiome, and Metabolism, as well as the Starr Center for Computational and Quantitative Science.
Peach Bowl
$20 million to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to support clinical drug trials at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
Holle Family Foundation
$10 million to the University of Alabama to establish the Holle Center for Communication Arts within the College of Communication and Information Sciences. Everett Hughes Holle, a brigadier general in the U.S. Army Reserves who later became assistant general manager at WVTM-TV in Birmingham, graduated from the university in 1950. He died in 2017.
Johnson & Johnson
$5 million to Save the Children for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and a new program dedicated to mental health and psychosocial support for children in the United States and around the world.
Knight-Lenfest Local News Transformation Fund
$5 million over two years to the Philadelphia Inquirer and Temple University’s News Catalyst at the Klein College of Media and Communication to upgrade technology for their digital platforms. The newspaper will receive $3 million, and Temple University will get $2 million. The fund is a joint project of the Lenfest Institute for Journalism and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
SunTrust Foundation and SunTrust Trusteed Foundations
$3 million to the Atlanta Police Foundation to build a new facility in Atlanta that will house its programs for youth-crime diversion.
Pallottine Foundation of Huntington
$1.9 million to 43 nonprofit groups that address health challenges in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio.
Hargrove Engineers + Constructors
$1.5 million pledge to the University of South Alabama for the Hancock Whitney Stadium.
Stanton Foundation
$1 million to Tulane University Law School to pay for the operating costs of a new law clinic dedicated to First Amendment rights. Frank Stanton, the longtime president of CBS News, died in 2006 at age 98.
New Grant Opportunity
The TD Charitable Foundation is accepting proposals for grants to expand the availability of low-cost rental units in the United States. The foundation will award a total of $3.8 million to 30 housing nonprofit organizations that work to refurbish existing apartments and build new safe and affordable rental units. Applications are due October 25.
