Study Finds Top College Fund Raisers Share Traits

A new report has found that the top higher-education fund raisers tend to have more staff members to support them, receive performance-based incentive pay, and are allowed to focus on major donors, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education.
The survey, by Eduventures Inc., polled more than 600 fund raisers at colleges around the country and homed in on those who were in the top quarter of the profession for the past three years, the Chronicle reports.
“To succeed, development organizations need to recruit from the right talent pools, screen for the right attitudes, and organize work in ways that allow gift officers to maximize time on task,” said Jennifer Zaslow, senior research analyst at Eduventures.
