Study: Women Choose Altruistic Men Over Handsome Ones as Mates

January 14, 2016

A new study finds that women are inclined to select as romantic partners men who are altruistic over men who are physically attractive, the Pacific Standard reports.

In the study, conducted by researchers at the University of Worcester and published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, 202 straight women, largely in their early 20s, were presented with images and narratives about how men behaved charitably, or failed to, in various scenarios.

The women rated as signifiantly more desirable the men who exhibited high levels of altruism.
