Peter Buck, who co-founded fast-food chain Subway and serves as the firm’s chairman of the board, has donated $30-million to a hospital in his longtime hometown of Danbury, Conn., The Wall Street Journal reports.

The gift, to be formally announced Friday, consists of $10-million Mr. Buck gave Danbury Hospital anonymously last year and $20-million he pledged if the medical center hit a $50-million fundraising target. Mr. Buck, who has kept a low public profile, also agreed to come forward as the donor if the hospital met its goal.

A new patient tower will be named for Mr. Buck and his late wife, Carmen Lucia. Mr. Buck’s giving is largely channeled through a $300-million family foundation that supports a variety of other causes, including charter schools, science and engineering education, and environmental charities.
